Wes Schmer was born in Colorado, grew up in Colorado , Texas and Arkansas. Grew up playing sports and swimming, but loved mechanics and welding. After graduating high school in 1979, he enlisted in the US Navy, starting out in San Diego California, then Memphis Tennessee, Milton Florida , back to San Diego, then the USS Ranger, while learning many skills including diving. 2 years of sea duty, including the Indian Ocean, Tehran and Granada. It wasn’t until many years later while diving in Nebraska with other veterans, on being an instructor, that his career began as a Padi Instructor in Utila Honduras, where he also learned about Wayne Miller and Trident Warriors. His passion for teaching others to love the underwater world, especially veterans finding peace of mind and soul underwater has led him to where he is today.
Wes, works full-time in the maintenance shop at the school (15 yrs), Volunteer Firefighter/EMT (19 yrs) , Umpires High School and American Legion Baseball (15 yrs) , Keith County Veteran’s Honor/Color Guard (12yrs), and Current American Legion Post 135 Commander.
